New initiative launched to aid Leicester’s office sector

A new initiative has been launched in order to aid the ailing office accommodation sector in Leicester, backed by planning experts, politicians, developers, property consultants, and business people and spearheaded by the city’s mayor, who has been actively attempting to reinvigourate the area’s office space for quite some time.

Sir Peter Soulsby invited around 50 of his closest friends to breakfast this past Friday in order to unveil his new Leicester Office Market Study initiative.  Leicester’s mayor drove the point home by holding the meeting in a vacant office complex inside Colton Square as a prime example of what kind of issues the city faces, according to some who were in attendance at the meeting.

The study, which will include an action plan this autumn after a summer consultation, is being conducted by Lambert Smith Hampton, commercial office space experts undertaking the work for the city council.  The study is not the only action being taken, as a property forum has already been launched, similar to those already in existence in Nottingham and Birmingham, and will be comprised of both private and public sector bigwigs working in concert to look for and promote grade A offices within Leicester.

The city has faced criticism for the serious lack of office accommodation.  Inadequate parking has been another serious issue, and many high profile companies have fled Leicester, taking jobs local residents need to fight off the effects of the double-dip recession currently strangling the lifeblood out of the country.
